Confidentiality
CSAW is dedicated to maintaining the confidentiality of the students who access our services, and our staff is bound by law to protect that confidentiality.
Here at CSAW, our staff are trained to provide services as confidential resources. This means that any student participating in our 1:1 support services, group support services, or any interpersonal violence and sexual health programming can be assured that CSAW staff will not disclose information about incidents of sexual misconduct to anyone. This includes law enforcement and ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ University reporting offices.
In addition, CSAW records are strictly confidential and the use of CSAW services is not listed on the student's academic transcript. No one outside of CSAW may receive information about a student's services one-on-one or group services with CSAW without the student's written permission. There are a few exceptions to this confidentiality, which are as follows:- We are required by law to report suspected child abuse, abuse of an elderly individual, and abuse of adults dependent on others due to disability
- We have a duty to take action if you intend to harm yourself or another person
- We have a duty to warn if failure to disclose the information you have shared will likely result in clear, imminent harm of yourself or someone else
- You are receiving services under our Basics program that were mandated as a part of an OCS intervention wherein attendance and the content of the Health and Safety meeting are reported out
You can review the Confidentiality Statement and Limits to Service Disclosure document, provided to students interested in our sexual health and interpersonal violence support services to understand this more fully.
When a student reports sexual misconduct to a university staff member who is not a confidential resource or acting within their confidential role on campus, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. CSAW staff advocate within ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ to prioritize survivor privacy in all university procedures.
